SURVEY

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND? WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO WEALTH?:
Shiv is the youngest child and only daughter of an egocentric great white, titan of industry, billionaire and tyrant, Logan Roy. Think Rupert Murdoch, but throw in Disney's media and theme park empires into the old Fox suite. For Shiv, money is no object. One million dollars is no object. She has so much liquid cash in her trust fund that it isn't about money any longer; it's about power. Her wealth is guaranteed, a generational tidal wave that will sweep her and her brothers away with it. Anything they earn, any impact they have, will be a drop in the ocean of Logan's achievements.

As such, Shiv has known luxury all her life. Ponies, tennis lessons, boarding schools, and holidays across continents. She wears it now the way only the uber, eternally wealthy can — utterly without need to flaunt it. It's quiet but obvious, with four-thousand-dollar sweaters, the penthouse with minimalist decor, taste and class intertwined. You don't need to see diamonds dripping from her neck when she's arriving by town car everywhere she goes (when her name on stock card is enough to get whatever she wants). She also doesn't need to marry up. In fact, it's preferable to marry down, in the hopes that a lesser, lower man will never betray you.

Initially, she resists some of the trappings of her wealth and social status by pursuing a left-wing political career. It's an attempt to make a name for herself beyond her father that she abandons the moment he invites her into the fold, chasing his approval above all. She sometimes still chafes against the greater evils of her family fortune, just enough squirming in the gilded cage to rationalise staying inside it. Call it rich, white guilt; just don't expect her to put her money where her mouth is. You won't see her divesting from the company or seeking financial independence from her family. So, in some ways, her relationship to wealth is simple (easy as choosing the best, as never worrying about having less) and others, it is profoundly difficult, chaining her to her father and his company forever.

WHAT WOULD/DID YOUR CHARACTER MAJOR IN?:
Political science, minor in PR.

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER?:
She told her husband they were in an open relationship after they got married. God forbid a woman lezz out.

DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER USING ONE SONG FROM THE EARLY 2000S:
What It Feels Like for a Girl, Madonna.

NAME 1-3 VICES YOUR CHARACTER INDULGES IN:
Drinking, sex, lying to seem cool and nonchalant and not so fucking desperate haha.

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S LIQUOR OF CHOICE?:
Wine (she owns a biodynamic vineyard because she's rich in like a cool, effortless, ethical way; please applaud), champagne, gin.

HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER LIKE THEIR EGGS?:
Real women have sparkling water and phone time for breakfast. You can dress up an omelette later in the day.

IF YOUR CHARACTER HAD TO DRINK SOMEONE'S DIRTY BATHWATER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?:
Please do not psychoanalyse this answer because it would unfortunately be Logan Roy's. What depravity would a daughter not lower herself to, for the approval of dear old dad.
